Edgar Baltins

Edgar is widely regarded as the leading tax and property advisor in the retirement village and aged care sectors.
He is well known for his strong advice to international investors, public companies, not for profit boards and private developers. Edgar has pioneered many of the investment structures in the village sector.
He spent 33 years at KPMG, 26 years as a Partner. His roles included Head of Real Estate Taxation (Australia) and Head of Tax Technology (Australia); he sat on global KPMG committees and networks for tax technology, knowledge management and real estate.
Since 1991 he has represented the retirement village industry in tax negotiations with the ATO that culminated in Taxation Rulings TR94/24 and TR2002/14, as well as providing input on GST issues.
He has been active an member of Tax Policy Committees of the Property Council of Australia (and its predecessor, BOMA) since the late 1980s, and has contributed to many submissions to government on a variety of tax policy issues. He currently sits on the Retirement Living Council Tax Committee.
Edgar faced compulsory retirement at KPMG at the age of 56. He has since established Baltins & Co.
